"Radio as we know it is pretty much changing completely" - David Lee Roth
Long-listed for the BBC writer's prize, Paternal Issues is a dark story inspired by the ever-emerging claims of historical sexual abuse that seemed to dominate the news during 2014.
When writing for an audio play, it's important to remember that the listener plays a crucial role in actively constructing the characters, set and costume in their own minds, with no visual stimuli. With this in mind, it was important that I was never explicit with the darker elements of the story, knowing that small, subtle nuances would be enough to portray the characters' inauspicious natures.
